Allen Fox earned a B.A. degree in physics and a Ph. D. in psychology from UCLA where he won the NCAA Singles and Doubles titles. Dr. Fox wrote the highly acclaimed books, „If I’m the Better Player, Why Can’t I Win?” „Think to Win,” „The Winner’s Mind,” and his recent fourth book on tennis psychology, „Tennis: Winning the Mental Match,” which has been endorsed on its cover by Jose Higueras and Jay Berger, heads of player development and coaching for the USTA.
Dr. Fox has consulted on the mental game with pros (including John McEnroe, Dinara Safina, Justin Gimelstob, Dimitri Tursunov, and Sam Querrey) and competitive players of all levels, and presently coaches Igor Kunitsyn (highest world ranking of #35) on the ATP Tour. . He is an editor of Tennis Magazine, travels worldwide to lecture, and for the past three years the Tennis Channel has aired his popular 1-Minute Clinics on tennis psychology. With the same competitive zeal that propelled him to the number four ranking in the United States, to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon and a 3-time member of the US Davis Cup Team, he became an investment banker and eventually ran his own investment company in addition to running several successful small businesses. Afterward, he coached the highly-ranked Pepperdine tennis team, mentoring, among others, renowned coach, Brad Gilbert. Dr. Fox’s Pepperdine teams were ranked among the nation’s Top 5 teams for 10 consecutive years and reached 2 NCAA Team Finals.
He lives in San Luis Obispo, California, with his wife, Nancy.
